We are pleased to announce our second Masterclass for the year as part of our on-line international innovation tour.
This Masterclass will focus on experiences of European Public Employment Services in providing high quality services to their most disadvantaged and vulnerable clients in an era of rapid digitilisation (please see below for the overview from our European colleagues) and will be facilitated by Employment Policy Consultant, Miguel Peromingo.
"This masterclass presents and discusses successful approaches and recent adjustments of PES in the European Union in how to guarantee that none of their clients is left behind."
OVERVIEW
“The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly accelerated the use of digital tools in the labour market and, in many ways, empowered some job-seekers to own their career decisions more, for example by being more involved in job search or decisions on their upskilling. On the other side, growing unemployment/underemployment and persistent lack of digital skills and access has pushed those that were already far from the labour market before the crisis further into low employability and the struggle with multiple barriers such as social and economic challenges, physical and mental health conditions, and impacts of long-term unemployment including lowered self-esteem.
Employment services all over the world face tough decisions on how to service their most vulnerable clients while their service infrastructure for face-to-face contacts is being dismantled in favour of more digital access. Hybrid models are a walkable path, but only if they are paired with client-focused case management and a clear nod towards digital skills training.
This masterclass presents and discusses successful approaches and recent adjustments of PES in the European Union in how to guarantee that none of their clients is left behind.”

Karin Johansson is Senior Officer at Arbetsförmedlingen, the Swedish Public Employment Service. She has an educational background as occupational therapist and is responsible for strengthening and developing national support within work-oriented rehabilitation for jobseekers with different health barriers.

Dorit Griga is Senior Manager of the International Relations at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economy, which operates as national PES coordinator. She is a social scientist with many years of experience in carrying out projects and studies in the field of education and labour market policy.

Davide Li Cavoli is the project manager for the current digitization of the Unemployment Insurance in Switzerland. He has 15 years of experience in project and project portfolio management as well as in the area of web portals in the automotive sector, public authorities and real estate.

When working with people from different walks of life on a daily basis, and often requesting them to undertake activities they may not be enthusiastic about, some level of challenging behaviour is inevitable. This is a two session on line coaching program designed to build skills in dealing effectively with challenging behaviour from an employment service industry perspective.
The coaching program aims to provide you with all the skills to help you understand and deal with the challenges of a modern-day client-centred employment service. Participants will acquire knowledge on how to enhance their communication techniques and to avoid conflict in the workplace. The model of delivery for this coaching program requires ‘learning by doing’, an active learning approach, whereby participants are expected to contribute to the discussion of techniques and to consider alternative and innovative approaches.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Session one: Self-management, resilience, and communication & listening skills: Friday 8 October 2021 at 12 noon AEDT.
- Understand the principles of how to self-manage and remain resilient in confronting situations.
