“Nudge for schools” webinar

Target group

RSAS staff and providers

Summary

Indigenous leader Professor Chris Sarra says there are 3 things we need to close the gap and end Indigenous disadvantage. High Expectations High Expectations High Expectations.
By this he means at every opportunity we must build social norms that expect and celebrate quality engagement in schooling and all of life’s opportunities. The work of “Nudge” is all about putting meat on the bones of this ambition.

Nudge is a model of thinking and working that appreciates how children make choices and nudges those choices in the direction of positive life behaviours.

In this webinar we will build upon the “how” we create more connected schools. We look at the systems symbols and language of a high expectation school and look at ways of changing our behaviour in subtle but effective ways to deliver CREE. Connected Retained Engaged and Employed young Indigenous students.

The topic of the Webinar will be conducted in 2 parts. Part 1 is a Youtube clip and is recommended that you watch prior to attending the scheduled webinar on Thursday 23 Feb.

Facilitator

In the 1990’s he was President of the Teachers’ Union and went on to a long career as a very senior public servant. He served as the first Training Ombudsman returning to schools in 2005 to achieve nationally acclaim for the “job guarantee” methodology now used in many high schools around the country. He left the Public Service as an Assistant Director General in 2011 to pursue his interest in improving outcomes for Indigenous students. This  has led to his intense study and research into the use of Nudge Theory in all schools. He is connected at highest levels of government and business.
