Originally a metallurgical engineer working life was 40 years with BHP in Steel, Mining, Transport, government relations and planning functions.  Subsequently chaired various federal and state government bodies in areas including technology, environment, education, energy research, community welfare and building regulations.  In addition, was Chancellor of Victoria University and a board member of an employment services organisation.  As a judge for the NESA Awards since 2005, this required reading and assessing well over 1000 submissions to date, a major task but a marvellous learning experience about how the employment services sector works and to realise how many incredible people are involved in it.
