Category Description:

This Award recognises employers who demonstrate excellence in employment inclusion of disadvantaged job seekers.

Category Eligibility:

In addition to the criteria set out in General Eligibility, this Award is open to employers who were assisted to recruit staff and nominated by an Employment Services provider of any Australian Government contracted employment program or service, during the Qualifying Period.

SELECTION Criteria

Introduction to the Nominee

Up to 300 words - Unscored but essential to providing background to judges

Name the nominee and provide a brief description of their business including detail of their overall workforce such as total number of staff employed and proportion that are full-time, part-time and/or casual.

Criterion 1

Up to 500 words – Weighted 30%

Outline the nominee’s workplace programs and strategies for the orientation, training and/or support of new recruits and existing workers, include any specific measures to recruit disadvantaged job seekers and retain them as employees.

This may include an example or case study to illustrate how the employer has gone beyond expectations to provide opportunities to job seekers or support/retain new recruits facing disadvantage.

Criterion 2

Up to 400 words – Weighted 20%

Describe the workplace policies, practices and/or procedures the nominee has in place which assist Employment Consultants in working with the nominee to meet their recruitment needs, including how communication between the nominee and your organisation occurs and how this benefits job seekers and/or new recruits.

Criterion 3

Up to 600 words – Weighted 30%

  • Provide details of the total number of staff recruited through Australian employment services in the past year and, where relevant, the broader duration of the nominating provider’s relationship with the nominee.
  • Provide a breakdown of the employment retention of job seekers placed with the nominee over the past year.

Indicate the proportion currently remaining in employment, and the duration of employment of each of those still employed.

  • Provide detail of the characteristics of the job seekers that the nominee has provided with employment opportunities.

e.g. may include number or % with a disability, mental health condition, mature age, Indigenous, refugee, youth, long-term unemployed; types of barriers such as offending history, substance use, homelessness, restricted work capacity, language/literacy etc.

Criterion 4

1 A4 page - Weighted 20%

Provide a statement from the nominee that explains why and how they support the recruitment, retention, and development of disadvantaged employees.

Supporting Material (Optional) - Unscored

You may provide up to five A4 pages of evidence to support the claims made in the nomination. Cross-referencing supporting material in the criteria response is essential. Supporting information may include, but is not limited to, photos, data, graphs, and copies of commendations or other letters of recognition.
