ENTRY RULES AND GUIDELINES

The Awards for Excellence are open to both selfnominations and thirdparty nominations. All nominations are assessed equally and fairly, regardless of who submits them. What matters is the substance of the nominee’s contribution, not the source of the nomination.

Judging focuses on:

  • demonstrated impact,
  • evidencebased outcomes, and
  • the nominee’s contribution to equity, inclusion, and community value.

Writing style, narrative ability, or access to professional support will not influence assessment. The strength of the nomination is based solely on the realworld outcomes achieved, the values demonstrated, and the positive impact on job seekers/participants, communities, and the employment services sector.

NOMINATIONS MUST INCLUDE:

  • The full name and personal details of the individual being nominated for the Award.
  • Details of the organisation, person and their role making the nomination and putting forward the submission.
  • An answer to each criterion.
  • Uploaded files where they have been requested.
  • A quality head and shoulders photograph or other suitable image of the nominee for individual nominees, or a quality group photograph or image for team nominees if applicable.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

APPLICABLE TO ALL AWARD CATEGORIES

  • Nominations are open to individuals and employers that meet the criteria outlined for each award category.
  • Self-nominations and third-party nominations are permitted.
  • Multiple nominations are encouraged across the Award Categories.  No more than 2 nominations can be submitted by an organisation/member for an individual category, with a separate submission required for each nomination.
  • All Awards are open to current NESA members, and the participants and employers assisted by them.
  • All Awards relate exclusively to activities undertaken within the 12 months preceding the nomination period (the “Qualifying Period”).
  • Any party nominated must also meet the Specific Eligibility Requirements for the Award category in which they are nominated.
  • All submissions and supporting information are treated as confidential.
  • Where an Award category permits team nominations, “team” is defined as at least 2 people working together to achieve specified outcomes, e.g.:
  • A work group, office or branch of a single organisation
  • A geographically based group (e.g. LGA or employment area)
  • A collaboration between two or more organisations
  • The use of AI for drafting or refining nomination content is encouraged to enhance clarity and presentation.  However:
  • All entries will be reviewed and checked to ensure authenticity, accuracy, and compliance with award criteria.
  • AI-generated content must reflect the nominee’s genuine achievements and not introduce misleading or fabricated information.
  • This process ensures parity and fairness across all nominations.

JUDGING AND SHORTLIST PROCESS

Judging for these Awards is built on transparency, fairness, and sector-wide trust. To uphold the integrity of the Awards, we ensure that every nomination is assessed through a robust, accountable framework.

All judges are independent and selected for their expertise, professional credibility, and commitment to equitable assessment. Judges must formally declare and manage any conflicts of interest before accessing submissions and commit to confidentiality and ethical decisionmaking. Where a conflict exists, that judge can be withdrawn from evaluating the relevant category or nominee to maintain impartiality.

To ensure consistency, fairness, and equal consideration for all entrants, judging panels apply standardised scoring rubrics aligned with the published criteria. These rubrics guide assessment across every criterion, ensuring that nominees, whether self nominated or nominated by a third party, are evaluated on the same terms and against the same expectations.

Every nomination received by the published closing time will be reviewed, read, and considered. Following this, an independently prepared shortlist will be developed to uphold impartiality and avoid any real or perceived conflicts of interest. Shortlisted nominees may be contacted for a conversation about their submission, which may include clarifying information, verifying achievements, or providing additional context to support accurate assessment.

BY SUBMITTING A NOMINATION TO THE NESA AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE, YOU:

  • Understand details of the nominator and the submitting organisation will be disclosed during the Awards process.
  • Give permission to NESA to describe your achievements at the Gala Awards Dinner and to promote your achievements to the media.
  • Are granting NESA permission to reproduce supplied photographs (except where otherwise requested), the organisation’s logo and information from your submission.

Note: NESA will contact finalists for the Achiever of the Year category or their representatives to review the nomination and agree on the information that is permitted to be shared with the media or used in NESA communications.

  • Understand that your contact details may be shared with official members of the media pursuing stories regarding the awards and award nominees.
  • Agree to abide by the judging panel decisions and accept that there will be no appeals.
  • Agree to attend the Awards presentation in person or virtually subject to travel restrictions (e.g. pandemic, natural disaster) or significant personal circumstances.

Exceptional Circumstances

In rare and exceptional circumstances, NESA may exercise absolute discretion to make determinations that uphold the integrity of the Awards and avoid disadvantaging entrants or causing undue harm to individuals, organisations, or the broader sector.

This may include the discretion to:

  • withdraw the granting of an honour where the award recipient or their nominated representative is unable to be present, either in person or virtually, to accept the award; and
  • withdraw a submission from judging where a nominating organisation experiences significant structural, operational or contractual changes after the awards closing date that materially affect its standing or capacity to participate in the process.

Such decisions will only be made where necessary to maintain fairness, ensure the wellbeing of those involved, and protect the spirit and reputation of the Awards. NESA will take a balanced and considerate approach in all such situations.
