Youth Jobs PaTH is a flexible approach to youth employment. It is designed to support young people aged 15 – 24 years to gain the employability skills and work experience they need to get and keep a job.

Youth Jobs PaTH has three elements: Prepare - Trial - Hire

Prepare

Assists young people to become job ready by providing intensive pre-employment training known as Employability Skills Training (EST). EST is comprised 2 blocks of targeted training.

Block 1 assists young people to:
• develop their resume,
• improve interview techniques
• focus on job preparation and job hunting skills
• understand employer expectations
• participate in industry awareness experiences

Block 2 focuses on:
• workplace skills and knowledge
• developing IT, problem solving and communication abilities to meet the expectations of employers

Training courses are 75 hours and generally delivered face-to-face in a group setting. Courses are delivered for 25 hours a week for three weeks for participants with a full-time participation requirement and 15 hours a week for five weeks for participants with a part-time requirement.

For Stream A job seekers, EST is compulsory from day 1 in jobactive. For job seekers in Stream B and C, EST becomes compulsory after 5 months in jobactive.

EST courses are delivered by a panel of Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in 51 Employment Regions across Australia.

Trial

Provides young people with voluntary internship opportunities to help them gain real work experience in Australian businesses and provides employers with the opportunity to determine if the young person fits into the team and is suitable for ongoing employment.

Each internship is voluntary and is undertaken for 30 to 50 hours per fortnight over 4 to 12 weeks.

Interns are unpaid by the business and receive a fortnightly incentive paid by the government. Employers receive an upfront payment of $1000 in recognition of the costs of hosting the internship.

Hire

Provides a financial incentive of up to $10,000 (GST inclusive) paid over 6 months to employers who hire eligible young job seekers.
