ParentsNext is a free support programme to help parents to prepare for future employment once their children reach school age.
It is available for parents who have not had paid work for at least 6 months and whose youngest child is under the age of 6.
The programme can assist parents to identify their education goals and, where necessary, to improve their qualifications. It can help to identify and address barriers to employment and to develop practical skills to get a job. It can help with access to services in the local community including child care assistance.
The programme was established in April 2016, initially in 10 focus areas. The 2017-18 Federal Budget announced the extension of the programme to all 51 jobactive Employment Services Areas, as well as a more intensive service in 30 areas of higher need (the original 10, plus 20 more).
