The TWES is a national voluntary in-prison employment service targeted at adult sentenced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.

Assisting individuals to prepare for release from prison, the program enables individuals to access support, prepare to find employment and reintegrate into the community.

In the blue section – update the yellow highlight:   The program is delivered by 13 providers in 70 non-remote prisons. The National Indigenous Australians Agency delivers TWES in 10 remote prisons. 

Providers work closely and cooperatively with the prison to promote and deliver the services to participants. Participation in TWES is voluntary.

Eligible participants

To be eligible to participate in TWES, participants must self-identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, be over 18 years of age, be sentenced and within three-to-four months of their release from prison.

Providers assist participants to undertake a comprehensive assessment of their employment barriers, develop a detailed transition plan and facilitate a transfer of the participant from the in-prison service to their post-release employment service provider.
