This session is ideal for front line staff working with clients facing overlapping challenges such as criminal justice involvement, mental health issues, addictions, and other psychosocial barriers that often intersect, making it difficult for participants to find and maintain work. The webinar will explore the importance of understanding how these complex needs impact each other and the participant’s employability. Participants will also learn trauma-informed care strategies to build safe, trusting relationships that enhance communication and rapport. As we all have our personal story and journey, through our unique family, culture and background, we all have a personal filter that external Triggers pass through. For example, a more experienced staff member may feel different to a Clients’ story compared to a more recent recruit. Being able to bring a conscious awareness on what Triggers our emotions and thoughts can help us be ready and prepared around more complicated situations, in work and at home. This one-hour long webinar focuses on 5 large aspects we all have at any one point: Our Thoughts, Feelings, Behaviour, Physiology and our personal Filters.
The webinar also highlights how we can raise Awareness on what the clients may be experiencing as they walk in our office door for their appointment. Being psycho-educated on what someone might be going through, helps us understand their behaviour. We may not agree or support a certain behaviour, but understanding it can help de-escalate a situation, and offer genuine empathy. Raising self-awareness and awareness of others can also lower the impact others’ behaviours can have on our own wellbeing.

Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Psychology, a Graduate Certificate in Career Development and other qualifications in Training, Management and Human Resources. With over fifteen years’ experience working in Employment Services and nine years delivering industry training, Rebecca is able to relay her knowledge and experience using a common sense approach and an informal manner which is popular with her clients. Her Employment Services work has primarily involved facilitating the Certificate IV in Employment Services throughout Western Australia and assisting organisations with other business needs such as tender writing and policy development. Currently the Director of Training and Compliance at the Betterlink Group, a Western Australian based RTO, she is also the WA president of the Career Development Association of Australia, an internationally certified Continuous Improvement Coach, SME Executive Coach and NLP Practitioner.
