Duncan is an articulate and confident professional with significant management experience within public service and not-for-profit environments. Duncan is an Aboriginal man of Palawa heritage and holds a Bachelor of Education from Queensland University of Technology.
In his current role he works with corporate, community and government organisations to seek opportunities in their supply chains for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander owned and operated businesses. He has also established a number of training programs designed to support the development, sustainability and growth of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander owned and operated businesses – acknowledging the key role they play in employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
In all of the programs he designs and implements he works in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders, NGO’s and community members to address the range of social and economic issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on a daily basis. He constantly analyses the changing government and philanthropic funding opportunities to assist in the development of programs and initiatives to reduce the gaps between our people and mainstream Australia.
Prior to his current role, Duncan held the position of Program Manager, Indigenous Employment and Enterprise Portal with Australian Red Cross. During this time he undertook extensive work to build the economic capacity of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the South East Queensland Region. Over the initial 18 months of the ‘Portal’ it attracted over 350 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients of which 252 were successfully placed into meaningful employment. The retention rate for persons who successfully completed 13 weeks of employment on the ‘Portal’ program sat at 92 per cent which was double the industry average.
